Who we are

Neighbours is more than a building. It is the result of people who set out to create something thoughtful and responsible in Marrakech. This is where we share the story, the team, and the values behind the riad.

History

Neighbours began with a simple idea: to create a place in Marrakech that feels both contemporary and deeply rooted in its surroundings.

In 2021, we (a Swiss family) acquired two traditional riads in the Medina. Together with our friend and architect Lisa (Studio Jaeggli), who lives and works in Marrakech, the space was carefully reimagined. What was initially planned as a renovation soon revealed structural weaknesses in the old buildings. The project therefore evolved into a complete reconstruction built on the foundations of the historic homes, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern Moroccan architecture.

From the very beginning, the work was guided by care for the existing structure, for local materials and artisans, and for the neighbourhood that gives the riad its name.

People & Community

At our riad, people are at the heart of everything we do. As a small boutique hotel, we believe hospitality should create opportunity.

We focus on offering meaningful roles, particularly for young Moroccan women, and support their professional development through fair compensation, further training and language courses. In collaboration with initiatives such as the ABURY Hospitality Academy, we aim to contribute to long-term skills and career perspectives within the hospitality sector.

We also take a conscious approach to sourcing, working with local cooperatives and choosing food and care products from responsible and sustainable producers whenever possible.
